Does anyone invest for the long term anymore when it comes to stocks? What's the longest you've owned stocks?
I like to keep my stocks for a long time for two reasons. I get my money back from the comission fees when I profit plus a little more and I always pick a stock that I wouldn’t mind keeping for a few months. If you hang in there even through the tough times it will make it worth it. I see potential being greater looking at the longer term which I will say is like 3 years to me or maybe more as long term. If you have a good stock why not keep it as long as you can. I don’t understand how some people invest in a stock and set a price of when they want to sell and get rid of it, even if it’s still in the positive and rising. This reminds me of the old fishing shows you’d see in the morning on the weekends where they catch a big fish and then afterwards they throw it back in the water. What the hell!?!? Take it home, cook it and eat it. LOL Same with stocks don’t set a price and sell it if it’s still rising because you can get more out of it. LOL Don’t you agree?

There are different investment styles. I hold stocks, both for the long run and others typically for a few months.

The first provide me with income: usually they are high dividend stocks like utilities.
The latter I trade, following a plan. I buy them on breakouts and sell when they lose momentum.

i have yet to own a stock for over a year.i’m new at this, however i know that long term investing is taxed at 15 percent, while short term is taxed at 35 percent. (under one year) i think due to our economic times, now would be a good time to invest long term…

good luck
